Handcrafted Decorative Ceramic Tiles & Clay Art

About the Artist

Chaya Richman took her first pottery class in 1996. Ever since then she has been hooked. Although she began her work on the wheel, today she focuses on hand-building and tile making. Her handcrafted, molded relief tiles merge her love for the Arts and Crafts style with designs from nature-shapes like flowers, leaves and animals.

Her tile making process begins with a single shape that in isolation or in a repeated pattern is carved into plaster. Clay is then pressed into a relief mold to create the positive image of the design. The glazes she uses enhance the visual appeal of the tile.

In addition to her existing range of designs, Chaya can work directly with clients to create a custom installation. These tiles can be used as accent and field tiles for use on fireplaces, kitchens, baths and more.

Chaya's hand-built pieces are inspired by patterns and textures found in nature. The shapes are functional with a visual aesthetic and tactile quality. Chaya uses a combination of hand carved and pressed techniques to create each work. She applies a single glaze to illuminate the designs. Chaya invites people to enjoy both the visual and tactile elements of her pottery.
